Every tarot card can be said in one breath.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not fully, because a card is an image, and images always hold more than a sentence. But every card has a core: one essence that survives every deck, every reading, every question. This glossary gives you that core for all 78 cards of the classic tarot, plus the light and shadow each card can carry.<\/p>\n

We use the traditional card names here, the ones you will find in the Rider-Waite tradition, because they are the common language of tarot. Whatever deck you read with, these archetypes are the base underneath it.<\/p>\n

How to use this glossary<\/h2>\n

Keep it as a reference, not a rulebook. A card does not mean one fixed thing: its message bends with your question and with the position it lands in. The Hermit in a question about your career points somewhere different than the Hermit in a question about a marriage: solitude at work is not solitude in love.<\/p>\n

The Minor Arcana<\/h2>\n

The 56 Minor Arcana are the texture of daily life: moods, efforts, conversations, small victories and small griefs. They come in four suits, and each suit governs one domain of experience. The court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King) are not people you will meet; they are postures you can take. The Page is the apprentice of the element, the Knight is its quest in motion, the Queen its inner mastery, the King its outer command.<\/p>\n

Cups: water, the domain of emotion<\/h3>\n

Cups speak of feelings, bonds, intuition, and imagination. In a question about a friendship that cooled, the Five of Cups might ask: are you mourning what the friendship was, while two cups still stand behind you?<\/p>\n

Pentacles speak of work, money, the body, and security. Ask about a project that is taking longer than planned, and the Seven of Pentacles answers with a question of its own: is the harvest late, or still ripening?<\/p>\n
