The Classic Tarot: The Book of Cards Is Here

Seventy-eight cards, and not one of them knows your future.

That is the first line of The Classic Tarot: The Book of Cards, PlayTarot's first book, and it is the promise the whole book keeps. It is the companion to The Classic Tarot deck: the classic scenes of the tarot tradition, painted anew and read as a mirror, not an oracle.

Every card, two pages

Each of the 78 cards appears in full color, with three layers of reading:

  • The Image. A reading of the card symbol by symbol, and how each one speaks to the life of the person looking.
  • The Bridge. The essence of the card in a few lines, ending in a question you can take with you.
  • Light and Shadow. Keywords for quick reference, because every card has both.

Take The Star, the card that comes after the Tower. Its Bridge ends with a question, not a forecast: after what fell in your life, what in you could start to sprout again?

What else is inside

  • An introduction to tarot as a symbolic language, with no mystery and no prediction.
  • How to read the cards: the right question, looking before reading, light and shadow, and what to do when a card seems to make no sense.
  • Three spreads, from one to five cards: Inner Spark, Inner Compass and Inner Elements.
  • A glossary with the essence of every card in a single line.

Who it is for

For complete beginners, and for readers who want to look again. You do not need to believe in anything. You need to look closely.

The book follows the same idea as everything on PlayTarot: the cards do not decide for you. They show what is already there, so the choice stays yours.

The ebook is available in English and Portuguese. See where to get The Classic Tarot.
