A great wheel hangs in the sky, figures rising on one side and descending on the other. The detail that matters: the figures at the top and the bottom are temporary tenants, and the ones going down today were up last season. Nothing on the rim is stable. The only still point on the whole card is the center: the axle, which doesn’t rise or fall at all.
The essence: the cycle in motion; everything turns, and what is up comes down to rise again.
Light: a favorable turn, opportunity, flow, a feel for timing. Shadow: resisting change, fatalism, clinging to a position on a wheel that was never going to hold still.
Through the worlds
In the Inner Alchemy Tarot, this card becomes The Ouroboros: the serpent that swallows its own tail. Alchemy’s oldest emblem says the cycle isn’t a trap; it’s a metabolism. Every ending feeds the next beginning, and the work is knowing which phase you’re actually in.
In the Inner Forest Tarot, it becomes The Flood and the Ebb: the Amazon’s great annual breath. When the water rises, the forest doesn’t file a complaint; fish swim between the trees. When it ebbs, the exposed mud is the most fertile ground of the year. Neither phase is the good one. The river needs both.
In a reading
In The Blind Spot, the Wheel often reveals that you’re treating a season as a verdict, mistaking the ebb for the end. In The Mirror, it asks you to find the axle: what in you stays steady while circumstances rotate? In The Next Step, it’s a timing card: stop pushing the wheel and position yourself for the turn that’s already underway.
